I know LOTR was intended to be seen as one work/book (I know, there's debate) but I'm trying to think practically. (Both are Illustrated By Alan Lee.) I just want to hear your guys thoughts on it. Now another big factor is whether to get hardcovers of the three books or go for a 3-in-1 edition. I already own The Hobbit Illustrated By Alan Lee and The Silmarillion Illustrated By Ted Nasmith and I not sure if I get the 2002 Hardcover The Lord of The Rings Illustrated Box Set or the 2014 Hardcover The Lord of the Rings Illustrated Edition.

I'm pretty set that I'll get her a hardcover edition, since that would be more durable and attractive - plus I already have my paperbacks that I could lend her if she just wanted to read them, I want to get her something nice to make it worthwhile. I've become aware that the illustrated editions by Alan Lee are very nice, and I think my sister would very much appreciate illustrations with the book. These versions have new editing, additional special effects and music, and also more. Now, Amazon is a mess to navigate thanks to the way it combines an enormous assortment of reviews for very different editions for LOTR and related works. What the Middle-Earth Ultimate Collector’s Edition does have is a big box with some nice art, separate arts cards, and a 64-page booklet featuring costumes. The Lord of the Rings: Special Extended Edition is a version of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings film trilogy. I'm hoping to shell out for a very nice set of some kind that she can enjoy. Recently, my sister watched the trilogy while at College and fell in love with them, and now is asking for a "Lord of the Rings Book Set" on her Christmas wishlist. Hello! I've been a fan of LOTR for a long while and own some beaten-up paperbacks of the series but they suit me well.
